Royal Boucherie, Old City’s American-inspired brasserie from Top Chef winner, Nicholas Elmi, and all-around Lady Boss, Suzanne O’Brien, is known for its innovative cocktail menus boasting creative concoctions and the timeless classics. Red Owl Tavern, the bustling restaurant and bar across from Independence Hall, may be known for its extensive brown spirits selection, however, Lead Bartender Kyle Darrow likes to offer at least one mocktail for those looking for a cocktail alternative. Those observing Sober October should be sure to try Kyle’s Silk Road, boasting Seedlip Spice (non-alcoholic distilled spirit), 5 spice syrup, lime and ginger beer. Townsend, East Passyunk’s romantic French bistro, offers guests a booze-free alternative with Beverage Manager, Harry Jamison’s Something to Put These Flames Out, a fun faux-cocktail, featuring cardamom, lime, cinnamon, ginger, club soda, topped with grated nutmeg and mint. Rex 1516, Philadelphia’s home for elevated Southern-inspired fare, not to mention one of the best Hurricanes outside of NOLA, has a respected cocktail program lead by Bar Manager Lou DiNunzio.
