Philadelphia, PA - Bistrot La Minette will celebrate Tartiflette Month, beginning on Saturday, April 1, offering a tempting four-course meal of traditional Savoie specialties, including the namesake dish.Philadelphia, PA -  Bistrot La Minette , Chef-Owner Peter Woolsey established himself as one of the city’s most capable French chefs at Bistrot La Minette, which he owns along with his wife, Peggy Baud-Woolsey.

The cozy restaurant is a family affair, with Peggy’s photos adorning the walls and tables that Chef Woolsey built with his father from wood reclaimed during the restaurant’s construction. Despite the beautiful setting, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Craig LaBan wrote that “...it is Woolsey’s authentic French menu that had me most excited,” praising the “beautifully rendered appetizers” and “numerous other highlights” on the authentic French bistro menu. Chef Woolsey is also responsible for the well-received menu of contemporary American fare served at knock-out riverfront restaurant La Peg at FringeArts, named “Best American Restaurant” by Philadelphia magazine in their 2016 “Best of Philly” issue.

This summer, Bistrot La Minette will celebrate their landmark Ninth Anniversary with a pop-up Bouchon La Minette, featuring transportive and authentic Lyonnaise cuisine from Chef-Owner Peter Woolsey and Executive Chef Kenneth Bush. For just five days, from Monday August 21 through Friday August 25, Bouchon La Minette will serve a multi-course meal, starting with a buffet of Cocohnailles, Salades and Les Entrées Froids (charcuterie, salads and cold appetizers), followed by a choice of main course and family-style side dishes, an optional cheese course, and a lavish dessert. The entire meal will be accompanied by an array of a la carte aperitifs, wines and digestifs for each course, as they would in a typical Bouchon in Lyon, for just $45 per person, with an optional cheese course supplement, and includes Cochonailles such as Rosette de Lyon sausage and Rillettes de Porc; Salades such as Salade de Lentilles, and Poireaux (leeks) Vinaigrette; and Les Entrées Froids such as Sardines à l’Escabèche and Tartine au Chèvre et Confit d’Oignons

  • Fricassee de Volaille a la Crème, white wine-braised chicken with onions, mushrooms and sauce suprême
  • Boeuf Mariné au Vin Rouge, red wine-marinated and braised beef with anchovies, carrot, onion, leeks and tomato

“In Lyon, a meal among friends is a sociable and enduring tradition, with a lavish spread of starters followed by main dishes, with accompanying side dishes served family-style for the table to share,” explains Chef-Owner Woolsey. “As we considered how best to celebrate our birthday this year, we couldn’t imagine a more exciting and delicious way to invite all of our fans and friends to join us for an authentic, shared meal in the inimitable style of a Lyonnaise bouchon. We hope to see many familiar faces – and plenty of smiling new ones! – as we serve this special pop-up menu all week beginning on August 21.”

Many are inspired by Chef Woolsey’s wife and in-laws, who are natives of France, and all are proudly authentic, bringing underexplored French ingredients and dishes to Philadelphia. Previous monthly dinners have included April’s popular Tartiflette menu from the Savoie region, June’s featured prix fixe meal will focus on the cuisine of Provence, celebrating summery ingredients such as tomato, basil, peppers, eggplant and courgetti.

This month I dined at Bistrot La Minette (located at 623 South 6th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147) for the first time. The purpose of my visit was to preview April's special, a menu that features a Tartiflette. The tartiflette menu is a celebration of French family style cuisine centered around cheese. The tartiflette was chosen because this is the season of reblochon.
