- A former New York Steamfitter from the big apple launches a Salt & Spice Company in Bucks County, PA. While coronavirus forced many businesses to shutter their doors permanently, Marcus Davis left his life in NCY for greener pastures in Bucks County, PA, to fulfill his life-long dream of becoming an entrepreneur.
Wah Gwan Bucks Counties Spice Company
Wah Gwan is a seasoning line inspired by the Jamaican Patois greeting, which means "What's going on." The brainchild of Marcus Davis and his wife, Rose Orrell Davis, both passionate about producing high-quality spices and blends that bring out the most flavorful home food.
The couple create the spices to allow home cooks to use fresh ingredients and educate home cooks on cooking delicious food at home.
The idea was born from a desire to help inspire and educate families to return to the kitchen, talk, laugh, and heal. Just before the pandemic, the NYC transplants moved to New Hope, where Rose grew up.
And Wah Gwan was conceived in their Bucks Country farmhouse kitchen; however, the idea was actually thought of decades ago
"After wrapping up a short-lived rap career at 25, I worked as a steamfitter in NYC for close to 20 years, helping to build high rises, skyscrapers, and even One World Trade Center, all the while secretly pursuing my passion for cooking," - Explained Anthony
Marcus started to learn the fundamentals of the culinary arts while working as a steamfitter. For years, the 44-year-old union worker had been trying out different blends looking for an all-purpose seasoning that bridges cultural and situational cooking.
Then Rose gifted him with two vital quality-sourced ingredients: Pimentón de la Vera dulce sweet smoked Spanish paprika and dried scotch bonnet powder. He realized the combination ignited serious sparks. What happened next was purely magical, and Wah Gwan seasoning was born.
