Philadelphia, PA - I was driving for Uber all morning in Delaware when I got that one extra ride that ended up in Collingswood New Jersey. When I arrived, a lot of people were walking by the Cooper River, and Macona BBQ seems to be on the edge of the Collingswood's Business District.
Collingswood New Jersey BBQ At Its Best
Macona BBQ is in a neat brick building with beautiful designs in masonry and slate facades, at the end of what looks like a 1940s strip mall and storefronts.
The interior is full of fun barbecue decor with several tables and a counter so you can look out the window while you eat.
As the name implies, the menu is BBQ, and when I go back, I will definitely have to try out some of the Barbeque selections. Like the brisket, they put their own rub on it, and when you eat it, you're getting a lot of brisket and just a touch of rub.
I ordered the brisket sandwich, two choices of coleslaw to pike from a mayo-based or vinegar-based. My new friend at the counter suggested mayo-based with brisket (vinegar-based for pork). It came on a round roll and had the right amount of sliced brisket.
The sauce has a nice little zing to it. The brisket was tender and had excellent meat/fat/rub ratios—an excellent stop.
