- The Philadelphia Eagles have silenced the critics. For one week. Coming off a resounding 34-13 win at the Meadowlands, the 3-3 Eagles are soaring into their Week 7 contest with the Carolina Panthers.

hiladelphia dominated the hapless Giants throughout that foggy Thursday evening, and save for a few highlight reel runs from electrifying rookie Saquon Barkley, the Giants home crowd didn’t have much to cheer for. The Eagles defense has undoubtedly been leaky during the year, but they performed tremendously against Eli Manning, who’s well past his prime at 37 years old. They face a slightly more dynamic quarterback in Cam Newton, who’s established himself as one of, if not the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. He and Christian McCaffrey have combined to make a formidable running attack, which is scary for an Eagles defense that gave up over 200 total yards to Saquon Barkley alone. Much like the Giants on Thursday, the Carolina Panthers love their screens to the running backs.
As for Carolina, they’re looking to bounce back from a tough loss in Washington, one where they fell behind 17-0 and were unable to pull together for the win. Though it’s early in the season, it looks like a two horse race in the AFC South between the Panthers and the Saints. For Carolina to keep pace with a record-setting Drew Brees and the Saints, they need to win these big, in conference games. Looking at the NFC East, the Eagles are looking to take care of business and potentially leap to first place in the division. The Cowboys and the Redskins are both coming off statement victories at home, and are set to face off later on Sunday. The Panthers allowed several easy touchdowns to Alex Smith and the Redskins receivers, leaving them wide open in space. Don’t expect it to come that easy for the Birds. Nonetheless, the Eagles will improve to 4-3 on the season.
