PENNSYLVANIA - It’s a bittersweet week for the Newtown community. After a three-year run at the Village at Newtown South, The Borscht Belt Delicatessen has officially closed its doors, serving its final breakfast and lunch this past Father’s Day.

For those of us who made it a weekly tradition, the deli was more than just a place to grab a sandwich; it was a tribute to the legendary resorts of the Catskills. Co-founders Mike Dalewitz and celebrity chef Nick Liberato brought a genuine slice of New York-style deli culture to Bucks County, and their presence will be missed in the shopping center.

More Than Just a Deli

When the Borscht Belt opened its doors in the spring of 2023, it filled a specific void in our local dining scene. Whether you were there for the piled-high Reuben and Rachel sandwiches, their authentic Ess-a-bagels, or a bowl of matzah ball soup that tasted like home, the deli became a go-to for comfort food and community gathering.

In a statement following the closure, Dalewitz reflected on the journey: "Opening during the pandemic, The Borscht Belt became a place for community gathering and comfort food during deeply uncertain times. We're grateful beyond words to the Hunterdon and Bucks County communities that supported us from day one."

The Next Chapter

While the South Eagle Road location is shuttering, the Borscht Belt brand isn't disappearing. The ownership team has confirmed that this is a transition rather than a full exit from the region. Fans can still find their favorites at the deli’s Chestnut Hill location on Germantown Avenue, and the Borscht Belt food truck will continue to make appearances at festivals and events throughout Bucks County.

They’ve even teased a new, upcoming venture at the Quakerbridge Mall in New Jersey, which promises to focus on a different kind of comfort food: smash burgers and hand-carved sandwiches.

To the team at the Borscht Belt, thank you for being a "Mensch" and for the past three years of great food in Newtown.

You can continue to support the team by visiting their Chestnut Hill location or tracking the food truck's upcoming schedule on their official website and social media pages.
