There is nothing better then eat the tender, slightly sweet meat of a crab and while most of us think of preparing it by immersing the meat-filled shells into pot boiling water for several minutesCrab's on the BBQ are simple to do and somewhat less messy then traditional methods. Boiling is probably the most common way to prepare this seafood delight, although most people don't know that it can also be grilled, thus infusing the meat with a subtle smoky flavor.

By grilling one also preserves the health benefits of the crab as a low-fat, rich source of protein. If you are grilling larger crabs, such as Alaskan king crab, Dungeness crabs or snow crab, only grill the legs. When grilling smaller soft-shell crab, such as Jersey blue crabs, place them on whole. Remember when grilling to all ways think safety first and follow some simple grilling tips.

Begin by thawing your crabs in a large container of tempi water and letting it rest for several hours. Some crabs, most varieties such as Alaskan king crab and snow crab, are rarely available fresh and may come precooked.

Pre-heat to grill to a high heat. When hot, lightly oil grill. Next using tongs, arrange your crab on the grill evenly . If you are grilling crab legs, put the thicker portions near the center or hottest area of the grill. Put together a mixture of olive oil, butter, and garlic; to brush onto crab while on the grill. Continue Cooking the crab, turning once, until the shell begins to brown, this usually takes about 6 minutes.
