Philadelphia, PAKimmel Cultural Campus Presents A Tribute to Jerry Blavat - The Kimmel Cultural Campus will present A Tribute To Jerry Blavat on Saturday, 21st October, an exclusive event at the Academy of Music to honor Philadelphia's legendary radio DJ, Jerry Blavat. Jerry Blavat, aka the Geator with Heater, aka the Boss With the Hot Sauce, was a mainstay on the Kimmel Cultural Campus for many decades. He also had a significant presence in Philadelphia's music scene and city. The line-up includes Darlene Love and The Intruders. The Happenings are also on the bill, as well as Bobby Wilson and The Chantels.


A Tribute To Jerry Blavat, A One-night-only

Frances Egler is the Vice President of Theatrical Programming & Presentations at the Kimmel Cultural Campus. She said, "Jerry Blavat, entertainer of his generation, was a beloved and permanent fixture on our Campus." He found great joy in doing what he enjoyed for his entire life - bringing music and entertainment to the masses. What better way to honor his legacy than by assembling a group of special guests who will continue to keep the magic of his show alive?

Jerry Blavat started bringing high-energy performances to the Kimmel Cultural Campus in 2002. Blavat voted "Best Philly Icon" in a poll conducted by Philadelphia Magazine a few months ago, spent decades playing golden oldies on Philadelphia's radio. Blavat gained local fame by hosting live dances around the area. He also ran his own independent station and helped break many acts, such as the Four Seasons and Isley Brothers, in the 1960s.

Blavat, who had been in the radio business for over 60 years, was still DJing at multiple stations when he passed away, including WVLT, WXPN, WTKU WOND, and WBCB. He opened "Memories" in Margate, NJ 1972, where he performed throughout the summer. He was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame, Walk of Fame, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
