PhillyBite MinstralPhiladelphia, PA - Pinch me so I know that Mistral, an amazing upscale restaurant at the KOP Mall, was real and I wasn't dreaming. The King of Prussia Mall has a wealth of options to shop and dine at, but what surprised me was to walk up to a mall and find a trendy modern restaurant with a Mediterranean flare.

TMinstral 5Mistralhe atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, with a double-sided gas-burning fireplace that created a separation between two area's, allowing you privacy but still remaining open. And adorning the walls were brightly colored plates, the color of the Ionian Sea in Greece, and drop lighting that made you feel like you were walking among the stars.

Once seated at the table, we looked over the Brunch Menu which has several options of shared Family Style plates as their First Course options. All of which sounded amazing, and therefore hard to decide on which to choose. So what do foodies when faced with this dilemma? They share, so we had a round of several appetizers. The Shrimp Beignets were a little bit like biting into hush puppies, and the Creole Remoulade sauce that comes with them is full of a spicy heat that will arouse your taste buds. Next we indulged in Mistral Restaurant's Carrot and Parsnip Tahini which had freshly made pita bread to dip into the creamy, flavorful creation. And what seemed to take the shared plates award came next; the Greek Yogurt Parfait with gingered granola, apples, apricots, and candied ginger. Not only did it look like dish made for a Greek god to eat, it tasted like that too.

It was obvious that the carefully curated menu for Mistral is reflective of the Main Line’s local taste, style, and atmosphere by chefs Scott Anderson and Ben Nerenhausen. They had created seasonal offerings that can be adjusted to their unsurpassed taste. Befitting to even the most distinguished locals and shoppers who are seeking a quick bite to eat, or looking to indulge in a culinary adventure at any time of day. However we were not here to just have a quick bite, so our own culinary journey continued onto the next course.Minstral 1Shrimp Beignets

For the Second Course, I chose their French Toast. which was presented with two very large pieces of Challah Bread toasted on the outside with that nice soft center. What I greatly appreciated is that syrup, whipped butter, and vanilla ice cream were on the side, so you can eat your french toast however you would like. And for a very pleasant surprise, underneath the sizable slices of warm french toast is a Bourbon Apple Compote. If you know me, I have a penchant for bourbon; cooking with it or sipping on it, so this was like a present encased inside of another one.

And as if we were at a gourmet feast, the dessert arrived next, and was equally exquisite. Taking a fond childhood treat and turning it into a more distinguished adult version, Mistral's Cranberry Shortbread Ice Cream Sandwich was made to savor as it melted in your mouth. The shortbread cookies, which were baked with cranberries and shaved almonds in the dough, had a small hint of salt that pleases you when you bite into the buttery cookie, and a nice contrast of tart from the cranberries. That coupled with the vanilla ice cream melting in my mouth made the salty-sweet-tart-and buttery encounter euphoric.

I felt lucky to experience and share with you an amazing restaurant that co-owners Scott Anderson and Steve Distler conceptualized and brought to fruition at Mistral. With its fast pace, small plates and focus on fresh, vibrant, local fare, Mistral offers a stunning mix of taste, style and atmosphere.
