First Flagship Café and Wine BarPHILADELPHIA, PA – Happy Bear Coffee Company (Happy Bear) has officially signed a lease to open its first-ever brick-and-mortar location at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Announced by Ensemble/Mosaic on December 15, 2025, the new flagship café and wine bar represents a significant milestone in the Navy Yard's ongoing transformation into a vibrant, mixed-use community.

The flagship will occupy 3,036 square feet on the ground floor of 1201 Normandy Place, a premier multi-tenant life science building situated between Central Green Park and Chapel Plaza. Construction is set to begin later this year, with a grand opening targeted for early 2026.

A Modern Community Hub

Happy Bear’s new space is designed to be a versatile destination for residents, employees, and visitors. The concept blends a high-end specialty coffee experience with a curated wine bar.

To complement its beverage program, Happy Bear has partnered with Carlino's Specialty Foods—a beloved Philadelphia-area brand—to offer a refined menu including:

  • Chef-inspired sandwiches and flatbreads
  • Traditional tomato pie
  • Fresh soups, salads, and breakfast items
  • Convenient grab-and-go options

The design will feature ample indoor seating and an expansive outdoor area overlooking the five-acre Central Green Park, providing, as co-founder Dan Kredensor puts it, a "daily ritual and a small retreat all in one."

From Online Success to Physical Flagship

Founded in 2023 by longtime friends Dan Kredensor and Frank Orman, Happy Bear began as a passion project rooted in Philadelphia's rich café culture. After two successful years as an online specialty coffee store, the Navy Yard location marks the brand's transition into a hospitality-driven physical space.

"Happy Bear represents the type of dynamic, community-focused retail that will define the Navy Yard as it enters its next phase of growth," said Nelson Way, Vice President of Leasing and Development at Ensemble.

Coffee with a Mission

A core component of the Happy Bear brand is its commitment to social responsibility. Through its "Customer-Powered Donations" initiative, the company donates 5% of its proceeds to causes selected by its customers. These range from local Philadelphia initiatives to broader environmental programs, ensuring that every cup of coffee or glass of wine supports community well-being.

Part of a Larger Vision

Happy Bear's arrival coincides with Ensemble/Mosaic's 20-year master plan for the Navy Yard, developed in partnership with the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC). This phase of development includes the site's first residential projects, such as the $285 million AVE Navy Yard complex, which will introduce 614 apartments and additional retail space in 2026.

As Happy Bear Coffee Company prepares for its spring 2026 opening, it is poised to become a signature food-and-beverage destination at the heart of Philadelphia's most exciting new neighborhood.
