Keeping on top of your yearly health check-ups is important for various reasons - you’ll be able to spot something early, if something is wrong (fingers crossed it’s not), and it gives you the reassurance that your health is good. Regular check-ups also help build a clear picture of your overall health over time, making it easier to notice any small changes before they become bigger concerns. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to ask questions when you have the professional in the room with you.
Different health checks are available, but three you should be doing include having a hearing test, going for an eye check-up and seeing a dentist. We know it can be hard to fit all three in sometimes, but it’s important you do, especially if you haven’t been in a long time.
Having a hearing test
Hearing tests are quick, not very intrusive and are useful to make sure your hearing is as it should be at your age. The number of times you should go for a check-up depends on your age; the older you are, the more times you should go. Technology has advanced a lot, with many hearing advancements this year. This means should you require something, you can use the best tech to solve it.
Going for an eye check-up
Eye tests are another health checkup that you should be doing regularly. Your eyes are so important to your day-to-day life, which is why it’s important you look after them and have regular checks, to make sure they are healthy and doing what they should do. In most cases, if your sight has deteriorated, all you will need is a pair of glasses that you will have to wear daily. If anything more severe pops up, you will be asked to see a specialist to confirm everything is alright, or next steps - hopefully this isn’t the case for you!
Seeing the dentist
We know going to the dentist isn’t a lot of fun, but that doesn’t mean you should delay it or not go at all. The longer you don’t go to the dentist, the more likely it is that you will need a treatment done. Plus, the longer something goes untreated, the more work that will need to be done to fix it. It’s recommended you aim to go to the dentist at least two times a year, but if you haven’t been at all, try to go at least once. If you are scared of the dentist (which happens to a lot of people), try bringing a friend or family member with you to support you. If you eat a healthy diet, you are less likely to need to have anything done.
We hope our article has been useful and that you can get an appointment for the three options above. What check-ups do you try to go to each year? Have you had the three checkups done this year? Is there anything missing in our guide that you think we should be adding? Let us know in the comment box below, we look forward to hearing from you.
