Philadelphia, PA
- For 30 years, it has been one of Philadelphia's most unique, beloved, and philanthropic traditions. GayBINGO!, the over-the-top, drag-filled, and show-stopping monthly event, is officially kicking off its 30th anniversary season on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Presented by the non-profit organization Action Wellness, this milestone season promises to be a spectacular celebration of joy, community, and three decades of giving back.
From Humble Beginnings to a Philly Institution
What began in 1996 has blossomed into a must-attend event that draws hundreds of people each month to the grand hall of Congregation Rodeph Shalom. The formula is a perfect mix of classic bingo, hilarious commentary from hostess Carlotta Ttendant, and dazzling, themed musical numbers from the legendary Bingo Verifying Divas (BVDs).
"Over this past year, I’ve had the privilege of meeting longtime attendees who have been part of this event for years, even decades, as well as first-time guests," said Action Wellness Executive Director Mary Evelyn Torres. "It’s truly inspiring to witness our community come together - month after month - in celebration, solidarity, and support."
A Legacy of Support:
Beyond the laughter and the show tunes, GayBINGO! has always had a serious purpose. The event serves as a major fundraiser for Action Wellness, an organization dedicated to providing social services and support to individuals living with HIV and those at high risk of acquiring it. The 30th anniversary is a celebration of the immense community support that has helped fund medical case management, housing services, and outreach programs for thousands of clients over the years.
"We are deeply honored to continue this legacy," added Torres. "But our work is far from over. Now more than ever, we need the public’s support as we continue to serve and uplift those in our community living with HIV."
The 30th anniversary season will be a testament to the event's enduring power to create joy, foster community, and make a profound difference in the lives of Philadelphians.
