Pennsylvania Gas Prices Hit 4-Year LowPENNSYLVANIA - While Pennsylvanians have spent much of the last few years bracing for impact at the pump, the end of 2025 is bringing a rare and welcome gift. For the first time since May 2021, average gas prices across the Commonwealth are dipping toward historic lows, with some lucky local pockets already seeing prices plunge well below $3.00.

As of December 29, 2025, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Pennsylvania has dropped to $3.05, a significant decline from the $3.21 average seen this time last year. But for savvy drivers, the real story is in the local "price wars" currently unfolding in specific Pennsylvania metros.

The "Sub-$3" Club: Where the Deals Are

The "vanishing" $3.00 gallon is making a dramatic comeback. While the statewide average is still hovering just above three dollars, nearly half of the State major metro areas have already crossed the threshold. If you live in one of these regions, you are currently paying some of the lowest prices in the Northeast:

  • Chambersburg-Waynesboro: Leading the pack with an average of $2.91.
  • East Stroudsburg: Close behind at $2.93.
  • Williamsport: Currently sitting at $2.94.
  • Bloomsburg-Berwick: Averaging $2.95.
  • Philadelphia: In a surprising twist for a major metro, many city stations are now hitting $2.90 to $3.00, a far cry from the $5.00+ highs seen in 2022.

The "Cheapest in the State" Winner

If you are looking for the absolute rock-bottom price in the Commonwealth, look toward the membership clubs and local discounters. Reports from December 28, 2025, identified at least one station in Pennsylvania priced as low as $2.55 per gallon—a price point that many experts predicted we might never see again.

Why Is This Happening Now?

The current "plunge" is a perfect storm of economic factors. A combination of seasonally lower demand, a steady supply of domestic crude oil, and the transition to cheaper "winter-blend" fuel has allowed prices to slide for five consecutive weeks.

However, Pennsylvania remains in the "Top 10" most expensive states for fuel in the U.S., primarily due to the State fuel tax structure. This makes the current sub-$3.00 prices even more significant for residents who have navigated years of some of the highest pump prices in the country.

How to Find the Lows Near You

Before you head out to fill the tank, check the "Green Zones" on your local map. While counties like Mercer ($3.24) and Centre ($3.22) are currently holding steady as the State most expensive regions, a quick 20-minute drive into a neighboring county could save you up to 30 cents per gallon.
