PhillyBite10NORTHERN LIBERTIES, PA — One of Philadelphia's most creative and rapidly growing neighborhoods is officially getting its own signature spring celebration.

This Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Northern Liberties Business Improvement District (NLBID) will debut the inaugural Northern Liberties Spring Festival. Presented by Sprouts Farmers Market, this all-day, all-ages "blockbuster" event will transform the corridor at 3rd and Poplar and the entire Liberty Lands Park into a massive community block party.

From 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the festival will showcase the best of the Riverwards, featuring over 60 artists and makers, two stages of live music, a high-stakes hot-dog-eating contest, and a heavy focus on family- and pet-friendly activations.

"Northern Liberties has always been a neighborhood that defies easy description," said NLBID Executive Director Sydney Rexroad. "Spring Festival is our way of throwing open the doors and celebrating everything that makes us unique and different. It is a true block party for the whole community."

If you are planning to head to the neighborhood this weekend, here is your guide to the festival highlights.

Two Stages of Live Music

The festival will be anchored by two performance hubs offering a diverse lineup of sounds:

  • The Ortlieb's Outdoor Stage (3rd and Poplar): This stage will feature a heavy-hitting rotation of alternative, indie, and soul acts, including Freelance Sweatpants, The Warhawks, and Cadre Noir.

  • The Liberty Lands Stage (913 N. 3rd): Focused on family-friendly programming, this stage will host everything from kids' yoga and astronomy sessions with "Philly Moon Men" to a live opera performance of Hansel and Gretel by Liberty City Arts.

High-Stakes Food and Local Brews

It wouldn't be a Philadelphia block party without a competitive eating element. At 5:15 PM, the action moves inside Ortlieb's for the official Hot Dog Eating Contest.

For those looking for a more relaxed pace, the festival features an impressive roster of local food and drink:

  • Outdoor Sips: Grab cold cocktails and "made-in-Northern Liberties" beers from neighborhood staples like Urban Village Brewing Co., El Camino, and Jerry's Bar.
  • Local Treats: Sample small-batch premium ice cream from Milk Jawn, scratch-made deep-fried dumplings from Humpty's Dumplings, and fresh focaccia from Hudson Table.

Family-Friendly and "Fido-Friendly" Fun

The festival is designed to be a top-tier destination for families and pet owners:

  • Libby's Garden: A dedicated toddler play area in Liberty Lands Park inspired by the park's snail mascot, featuring sensory play and movement activities.
  • Pet-Centric Vendors: Keep an eye out for 2nd Street Animal Hospital, which will be offering complimentary pet screenings for "Lumps & Bumps," along with several local makers specializing in sustainably crafted pet treats and accessories.
  • Makers & Vintage: Over 50 vendors will be on-site, ranging from vintage clothing specialists like Brarnolds Vintage to handcrafted jewelry and sustainable fashion from Roots Generate.

Event Details & After Party

Admission to the festival is complimentary, with food, drink, and shopping operating on a pay-as-you-go basis. After the festival concludes at 5:00 PM, the party continues at Ortlieb's with a comedy open mic and a live performance by psychedelic rock band High Leaf.
