PHILADELPHIA - As Philadelphia prepares to host six official matches for the world's biggest soccer tournament this summer, the city's soccer culture is reaching a fever pitch. For locals and visiting international supporters looking for the definitive "ground zero" of fan energy, the search begins and ends on South Street.
Brauhaus Schmitz, Philadelphia's premier German bierhall located at 718 South Street, has announced its transformation into the city's ultimate tournament headquarters. Running from June 11 through July 19, 2026, the venue is taking over the 700 block of South Street to host five massive outdoor watch parties alongside an uninterrupted, month-long indoor viewing experience.
Here is what soccer fans need to know to navigate the South Street festivities, secure seats, and experience the global game in Philly.
The Main Event: Five Massive Outdoor Block Parties
While Brauhaus Schmitz will show all 104 tournament matches inside, the crown jewels of their summer programming are the five outdoor block parties. For these marquee dates, the city will close down the 700 block of South Street to create a stadium-like festival environment.
The centerpiece of the street closure is a massive, 20-foot-tall LED wall erected right in the middle of the block, ensuring perfect sightlines for thousands of fans.
The Outdoor Watch Party Schedule
- June 25: Germany vs. Ecuador at 4:00 PM, followed by USA vs. Turkey at 10:00 PM.
- June 27: A triple-header featuring England vs. Panama at 5:00 PM, Colombia vs. Portugal at 7:30 PM, and Argentina vs. Jordan at 10:00 PM.
- July 3 & July 4: Five marquee knockout matches intersecting with Philadelphia's massive Fourth of July weekend and America 250 celebrations.
- July 19: The Grand Finale Watch Party kicks off at 3:00 PM to crown the world champion.
All outdoor block parties are free to attend, open to the public, and operate on a pay-as-you-go basis for food and drink. The outdoor events will take place rain or shine.
Inside the Bierhall: A Month of "Packed Haus" Energy
For matches outside of the block party schedule, the indoor bierhall will serve as a daily viewing hub. The venue has committed to broadcasting every single tournament match, with sound on, across 11 indoor screens.
To accommodate early tournament kickoffs, Brauhaus Schmitz will adjust its standard operating hours. The bierhall will open daily at noon, with early openings scheduled one hour before kickoff for any matches starting at noon or earlier.
First-Come, First-Served Logistics
Local Insider Tip: Due to massive anticipated demand—particularly for matches involving the United States, Germany, and Colombia—Brauhaus Schmitz will not accept individual reservations for indoor seating during the tournament.
Indoor tables will operate strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to watch a marquee group-stage match or any knockout-round fixture inside, arriving at least one to two hours before kickoff is highly recommended. To maximize capacity and foster an authentic global football atmosphere, the venue is adding communal seating and tables to create a dense, high-energy environment.
Premium Seating Packages
For fans who want to guarantee a seat without fighting the block party crowds, Brauhaus Schmitz is offering a limited number of premium reserved outdoor seats.
Available for purchase directly through the official Brauhaus Schmitz website, the $20 reservation package includes:
- A guaranteed, reserved seat within the outdoor festival zone.
- the choice of your first beer or a giant German pretzel.
- Dedicated table service throughout the matches.
Given that past South Street soccer events have drawn crowds of up to 10,000 people, booking these premium seats early is the safest bet for families or larger groups.
The Fan Experience: Food, Beer, and Giveaways
Owner Doug Hager and the team at Brauhaus Schmitz have fully leaned into the "Football Unites the World" theme, draping the building in international flags, soccer decor, and a massive tournament bracket wall decorated with soccer scarves collected from around the world.
Attendees can look out for several unique match-day features:
- The Global Menu: Alongside their standard lineup of high-quality schnitzels and sausages, the kitchen is serving a custom "Soccer Burger" presented on a unique, stamped soccer ball pretzel bun.
- 34 Draft Lines: As one of the country's most decorated German beer bars, fans can choose from 34 authentic drafts on tap throughout the summer.
- Exclusive Memorabilia: The bar will offer a limited-edition souvenir half-liter glass designed specifically for the 2026 tournament.
- Match-Day Noise: To replicate European stadium atmospheres, the staff will be distributing 2,000 complimentary German-colored cowbells and other surprise giveaways during key match windows.
Whether you are a die-hard supporter wearing your nation's colors or a casual sports fan wanting to experience Philadelphia's historic summer of sports, South Street is poised to be the city's definitive viewing destination outside of the stadium itself.
