Prepare Your Recovery In Advance



If you’re partying, dancing, and having fun all day at a music festival, then it makes sense to plan your recovery ahead of time. You want to make sure you’re packing your bags with the things you need to bounce back in the evenings and following mornings. 

For example, if you expect to be on your feet for most of the day, using your muscles, then investing in a foam roller makes a lot of sense. You can use this in the evenings to roll out any tired muscles and knots you may have. 



You could also look into getting compression socks. These are handy if you’re not used to being on your feet all day and need to circulate more blood back into the rest of your system. 

Even cooling gel is a nice idea, especially in the summer. Packing this gives you something you can grab with therapeutic benefits. 



Reduce Alcohol Consumption

Of course, you’ll also want to reduce alcohol consumption if you’re planning on going all week at a music festival. Drinking too much is something that can wear you out quickly. 

If you’re going to drink anything, look for tea, water, and THC infused beverages. These are a great way to give your body the hydration it needs while filling it with calming, relaxing energy. 

If you do decide to take part in alcohol consumption, try to limit yourself to one or two drinks per day. More than that, and you’re getting into dangerous territory.

Festivals are usually outdoors and involve the gathering of thousands of people. When you’re outside and there’s mud, there’s also a much higher risk of infection spreading, so paying attention to your personal hygiene makes a lot of sense. 

If you can shower daily at facilities, then go for it. Washing yourself and changing your clothes is a good idea. If the festival is happening over multiple days, you can usually go to a laundrette and get them to take care of the laundry for you, drying and hanging it if necessary. 

Another thing you’ll want to do is pack a basic first aid kit. Usually, if you’re outside in a new environment, the risk of injury is higher, so you’ll want to be careful. Having plasters and pain relievers on standby is usually a good idea. 

Dress For Comfort And The Weather

You can also stay energized at festivals by ensuring you get your clothing right. The people who enjoy these events the most are those who aren’t too hot or cold. 

If you’re going to a festival in the summer, then take some moisture-wicking clothes with you and a waterproof anorak. This combination is probably the best for being outdoors in a changeable climate. 

Sometimes you’re in a location, like the Mediterranean, where the climate is so good and reliable, you only need to focus on keeping cool and comfortable. That’s where things like supportive sandals, not flip-flops, come in handy. 

Of course, even if the weather is good, you still need protection, like a hat and sunscreen. You might also want to wear a rain poncho to protect yourself, just in case the heavens decide to open and you’re caught in a shower. 

Bring A Small Fanny Pack

It’s a good idea to bring a small fanny pack with you to a festival, just so that you can keep hold of all your valuables. You don’t want to be caught off-guard or leave things like your phone and money in your tent where someone could take it. 

These packs are robust and fit around your waist. You can also get stylish versions these days, specially designed for festivals, so you can always look your best. 

Take It Slow And Pace Yourself

When you first arrive at a music festival, it feels exciting, and you want to do everything straightaway. But, since you have time on your hands, it’s a good idea to pace yourself. You want to ensure that you have all the energy you need to make it through the week. 

Therefore, ensure that you build in things like downtime so you can avoid burnout. Don’t force yourself to be constantly active if you don’t have the energy. There’s no need to be on your feet all the time, necessarily, so don’t force yourself. 

Many music festival veterans split their time by spending 20% of it in high-energy settings, like trace sessions or mosh pits, and 80% of it in low-energy settings, like country music. If you can split up your time this way, you’ll often feel like you’re having much more fun. 

If you can skip the late-night sets, that’s also a good idea. Maintaining a proper sleep schedule means you can optimize your downtime, keep your body clock ticking over, and have fun. 

Fuel With Balanced Nutrition

Lastly, make sure you get your food right when at a music festival. If you’re eating junk, it will eventually catch up with you, even if you are getting a lot of fresh air. 

Focus on food items that will maintain your blood sugar levels at a steady state. Things like fruit, nuts, dried fruit, lentils, and protein bars can be helpful for this. 

If you can eat two solid meals a day, that’s also a good idea. Try to reduce consumption of greasy festival food, as this can slow you down and make you feel worse.
