Philadelphia, PA - The Judge's Bracket 1st round is complete! Philadelphia Cheesesteak Adventure March Cheesecake Madness. This year we are doubling the madness! We will have a 2021 March Cheesesteak Madness Champion and a People's Champion.
What Cheesesteaks Made It to Round Two?
The people's Champion voting is entirely online. Here, on PhillyBite Magazine and The People's Champion bracket is down the Elite 8, so make sure you get your vote in! The 2021 March Cheesesteak Madness champion will be chosen by judges in the Judge's bracket. The Judge's Bracket is purposely lacking the Peoples bracket. We are working on a special treat for the Sweet 16.
After a long week of tasting cheesesteaks, the 1st round on the Judge's bracket is over, and the third of the matches were upsets. I thought there was going to be fewer upsets in the Judge's bracket.
With that said, in the NJ/DE region, all of the favorites moved on to the 2nd round. #6 Zoagie's from Pennsville may have the cheesesteak to keep an eye on. Zoagie's is definitely a great follow on social media.
The Delco region had 3 upsets and lost both their 1 and 2 seeds. The region has a nice mix of the old guard and new face cheesesteaks.
The other counties region had a big upset when little known #14 DaVinci's Brick Oven Pizza used their homemade roll to upset #3 Curly's.
#2 Sly Fox Brewhouse and Eatery unveiled a new and improved cheesesteak that may be the cheesesteak to beat in the entire bracket. If we allowed for Home Made Sweet Potato Tater Tots extra points, they would be very tough to beat.
In the Philly region, #15 Datillo's Deli, well known in northeast Philly as a great deli, had an impressive victory over an excellent #2 Cafe Carmela.
Maybe the surprise upset coming out of the Philly region is #14 Gilben's Bakery and Specialty Sandwiches using their very delicious cheesesteak on a homemade garlic bread roll to upset #3 Frank's Pizza - East Falls.
