Historic Charm Meets Modern Elegance: A Philadelphia Kitchen StoryPHILADELPHIA — In a historic Philadelphia neighborhood, where cobblestone sidewalks meet forward-thinking design, a recent kitchen renovation has redefined modern farmhouse style. Spearheaded by interior designer Anna Dinger of One Twenty One Designs, the project brings together craftsmanship, warmth, and intelligent design in a space built for real life.

At the heart of the project is the Classic CX2 Range Hood, a handcrafted piece from World CopperSmith. With its clipped corners, five-sided profile, and availability in a wide range of finishes—from matte copper to brushed stainless—it anchors the kitchen with understated elegance and functional performance.

“This kitchen was designed to be used daily and admired always,” said Dinger.

Her design was guided by the client’s desire for a space that balanced charm with modern utility. A BlueStar professional-grade range provides the firepower, while the CX2 hood above it ensures air quality and hygiene through its antimicrobial stainless-steel construction. It’s a workhorse, but a beautiful one.

Brizo’s sleek faucet design offers both ergonomic efficiency and visual lightness, contributing to a streamlined sink area that doesn’t sacrifice personality. Top Knobs hardware lends subtle dimension to cabinetry—proof that even the smallest elements can elevate an interior when chosen with care.

Lighting and stools from Serena and Lily were introduced to soften the room’s edges. Their natural tones and gentle curves create warmth and intimacy without disrupting the kitchen’s crisp geometry.

“This was never about trends,” Dinger said. “It was about understanding how the clients live, then building a space that serves their lifestyle.”

Every material was selected not just for its appearance but for how it would perform over time. The CX2 Range Hood is a clear example: customizable to suit different layouts and ventilation needs, it can be fitted with remote or recirculating systems, and even matched in CFM rating to the cooktop below. It’s a designer’s dream—flexible, precise, and refined.

Beyond the materials, the kitchen tells a story of collaboration. Dinger’s work reflects the clients’ rhythms and routines, translated into layout and finish with thoughtful accuracy. During the final shoot, the family dog, Milo, made an impromptu appearance—adding a charming reminder that, above all else, this space is lived in.

This renovation is more than a style showcase; it’s a case study in how good design supports good living. From the vent hood’s antimicrobial surface to the cohesive flow between cooking and seating areas, every choice contributes to the overall experience of the room.

As Dinger noted, “It had to be elegant, but also livable—a space that welcomes you in and works hard behind the scenes.”

The result is a modern farmhouse design and kitchen that doesn’t compete with the architecture around it but enhances it—a room that respects tradition while embracing the future.
