Philadelphia, PA - If you love waterfalls, explore Cucumber Falls in Ohiopyle State Park. This 30-foot waterfall cascades over a sandstone ledge. It's a popular photo spot, and you can easily reach the base of the falls on foot. You can also hike up the trail to the Youghiogheny River for a closer look. The park has more than half a dozen great waterfalls, including Dingmans Falls, in the Poconos.
Cucumber Falls at Ohiopyle State Park
You can visit the park's visitor center, where you can pick up a map that shows the best hiking trails and scenic spots. There is also an observation deck overlooking the Youghiogheny River, where you can enjoy refreshing beverages and tasty eats. There's also a great gorge view at Ohiopyle Falls, which stretches across the Youghiogheny River with a 20-foot drop. Interpretive signage tells the history of George Washington's run-in with the river, and you'll find plenty of spots for beautiful photo ops.
You can walk a trail to the top of Cucumber Falls. Hundreds of rock structures surround the 30-foot waterfall. There are also mini waterfalls accompanying it. You can walk under the waterfall, on both sides, and on top of it. Afterward, you can take the trail back to the base and hike to the cascades, where the smaller drop and longer run are located.
