Provenance: Michelin Restaurant in PhiladelphiaPHILADELPHIA (Nov. 19, 2025) — If Friday Saturday Sunday is the spirited dinner party and Her Place is the rowdy gathering of friends, Provenance is the symphony. Located in a discreet, historic row house in Society Hill, Provenance has rapidly established itself as the most technically ambitious restaurant in Philadelphia. Following last night's Michelin ceremony at the Kimmel Center, Chef Nicholas Bazik and his team have been awarded a Michelin Star, validating a concept that inspectors described as a "high-wire, high-stakes performance."

The Chef: A Veteran Steps into the Spotlight

Before opening Provenance, Nicholas Bazik was already a "chef's chef," having quietly led kitchens at some of the city's most respected establishments, including Kensington Quarters, The Good King Tavern, and Lacroix.

With Provenance, Bazik has finally unleashed his full vision: a hyper-modern, seafood-focused experience that blends classical French rigor with subtle, artful Korean influences.

The Experience: A "Procession" of Flavor

Provenance does not serve a standard three-course meal. Instead, diners are treated to a "procession" of approximately 20 to 25 exquisite bites over the course of the evening.

The dining room itself is intimate and "zen-like," anchored by a soapstone counter where guests watch the chefs work in silence and precision. Despite the seriousness of the food, the atmosphere remains approachable, often set to a soundtrack of upbeat 1960s pop and Motown.

  • The Food: The menu is heavily focused on seafood, utilizing aging techniques and preservation methods often found in sushi culture but applied through a French lens.
  • Inspectors' Favorites: The Michelin Guide was floored by the level of detail, noting that even a simple salad here "can arrive as a revelation." Other standout mentions included Japanese tuna with whipped tofu and chili oil, and a dish featuring brown butter hollandaise with caviar and cauliflower.
  • The Sauces: As with the other winners, saucing is key here. Vibrant oils, special soys, and glossy French reductions provide the backbone of the menu.

The Cost & Logistics

This is pinnacle fine dining, and it is priced accordingly.

  • The Menu: One set tasting menu priced at approximately $185–$225 per person (prices subject to change based on ingredients).
  • Wine Pairing: An optional beverage pairing is available and highly recommended to match the complexity of the varied courses.
