PHILADELPHIA - As Philadelphia gears up for the America 250 celebrations and a stretch of soaring summer temperatures, The Franklin Fountain is offering a refreshing way to mark the historic milestone. The iconic 1900s-inspired ice cream parlor at 116 Market Street has officially launched three limited-edition treats perfect for the July 4th weekend.

Celebrating the 250th with Patriotic Sweets

The standout of the new menu is the Torch of Liberty Sundae. Served in a commemorative torch-shaped cup, this vibrant dessert features layers of lemon-lime sorbet, vanilla bean ice cream, and mango sorbet, finished with raspberry compote and fresh whipped cream. While the flavor combination remains on the menu year-round, the special torch cup is limited to a run of only 250 full-sized sundaes this summer, priced at $17.76. A junior size is also available for $13, though it does not include the keepsake cup.

For chocolate lovers, the shop has brought back a fan-favorite: the Tanzania Single Origin Chocolate Ice Cream. This treat is now being featured in the Liberty Bell Ice Cream Bars. Crafted using chocolate from the neighboring Shane Confectionery—which roasts and grinds its own cacao on-site—these bars are molded to replicate an antique Liberty Bell, dipped in dark chocolate, and filled with a cherry center.

A Nod to Philadelphia History

In addition to the ice cream releases, The Franklin Fountain is introducing the Fish House Punch Fizz. This non-alcoholic beverage pays homage to one of the city's most legendary drinks, historically associated with the Schuylkill Fishing Company of Pennsylvania. Dating back over 250 years, the original boozy punch was a favorite of historical figures like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. The modern, fizzy version served at The Franklin Fountain uses black peach tea, lemon, and a secret spice blend to replicate the depth and aroma of the classic recipe, finished with seltzer.

Looking Ahead: Bastille Day

The celebrations continue past the holiday weekend. On July 14, the shop will honor the Marquis de Lafayette with the release of the Creme de Lafayette. This special flavor will be a rich, French-style ice cream swirled with cooked raspberries and blueberries, perfect for Bastille Day.

These limited-time offerings are available while supplies last. For those looking to beat the heat this week, these treats offer a perfect excuse to step into the historic charm of the Franklin Fountain's 1915-style parlor.
