PhillyBite10The Colossal Bloomin' Onion from Outback Steakhouse is a steakhouse appetizer icon, but the true star is the zesty, creamy dipping sauce served right in the center. It has a distinctive kick that pairs perfectly with anything fried. The editors at PhillyBite Magazine and WherePhilly have recreated this bold, savory condiment so you can enjoy its legendary flavor profile anytime.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared creamy horseradish
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions:

  1. Add the mayonnaise, ketchup, and creamy horseradish to a mixing bowl.
  2. Measure out the paprika, salt, garlic powder, oregano, black pepper, and cayenne, and add them to the wet ingredients.
  3. Whisk everything together until the spices are thoroughly blended and the sauce has a pale orange color.
  4. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours (or overnight) to allow the dried spices to bloom and the horseradish to permeate the sauce.

This zesty, robust dipping sauce brings a restaurant-quality punch to almost any savory side dish. You don't have to fry an entire onion to enjoy it; this copycat sauce is phenomenal with crispy onion rings, homemade potato wedges, or even as a flavorful spread on a hearty roast beef sandwich. Keep a batch in the fridge, and you'll find yourself putting it on everything!
