PHILADELPHIA, PA - Philadelphia’s hometown snack hero is bringing a slice of history to the snack aisle. Herr’s has officially announced the winners of its 2026 "Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250" competition, introducing three new limited-edition potato chips that celebrate America’s 250th birthday and the city where it all began.
Now in its fifth year, the annual Flavored by Philly contest shifted its focus from iconic local dishes to the broader themes of freedom, liberty, and unity. Between November and December of 2025, nearly 100,000 votes were cast by fans to determine which historically inspired flavor profiles would make it into production.
Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries
Inspired by the bold vision of independence declared at Independence Hall, this ripple chip captures the ultimate comfort food. The flavor profile mimics crispy french fries smothered in creamy cheese and topped with smoky bacon.
Liberty Hickory Barbeque
Paying homage to the Liberty Bell and its legacy of bold beginnings, this chip delivers a robust barbecue experience. It combines a classic BBQ sauce flavor with sweet molasses and a deep, smoky hickory finish.
United Jalapeño Cream Cheese
Driven by the spirit of Betsy Ross—whose Philadelphia home remains a symbol of national unity—this chip balances rich, bold cream cheese with the mild, lingering spice of jalapeño peppers.
A Hometown Tribute for a National Milestone
Since launching in 2021, Herr’s Flavored by Philly campaign has acted as a love letter to the region's food scene, previously transforming local staples like roast pork, tomato pie, and the classic cheesesteak into fan-favorite snacks. This year's "Taste the 250" edition was designed to honor the Semi quincentennial by turning the ideals of the nation's founding into tangible (and tasty) snacks.

The family-owned, Pennsylvania-based snack brand has been operating for 80 years. The limited-time Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250 chips are available throughout the summer of 2026 everywhere Herr’s is sold, both in-store and online.
