Philadelphia, PA
- A massive explosion rocked South Philadelphia early Friday morning which turned out to be an explosion at the local Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery at 31st Street and Passyunk Avenue, near the sports complex.
The latest reports are that the fire happens to be contained without injuries or evacuations. The fire is confined to just the one refinery.
The Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery is the 10th largest inside the United States and the most significant oil refining complex along the Eastern seaboard. Philadelphia Energy Solutions has a little more than 1,000 employee's and refines over 335,000 barrels of crude oil each day.
South Philly Explosion Update:
- Philadelphia has removed local residences "Shelter in Place" warning via phone calls to nearby residence.
