oe Italiano's Maplewood in Mays Landing Lives Up to the HypeMAYS LANDING, NJ - Whenever you are traveling between the Philadelphia metropolitan area and the Jersey Shore, finding an authentic, family-owned Italian restaurant that treats you like a regular from day one is a major win. Located at 6126 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing, NJ 08330, Joe Italiano's Maplewood carries on a celebrated South Jersey culinary tradition that dates back to its original Hammonton roots in 1945. Under the guidance of third-generation proprietor Jimmy Italiano and his wife Robin, the Mays Landing location captures that same timeless heritage. The dining room offers a warm, inviting ambiance that strikes the right balance between a cozy date-night destination and a lively spot for dinner with friends.

Garlic Bread, Fried Ravioli, and Legendary Gravy

A truly great Italian-American meal starts with the bread and the sauce, and Maplewood excels at both. The garlic bread was easily one of my favorite parts of the night—incredibly flavorful, served hot and crisp, and the perfect way to kick off the meal.

We followed that up with an order of their fried ravioli, which arrived golden, crispy, and exceptionally tasty as a shared appetizer. What elevates every appetizer and pasta plate here is their famous, unique-to-Maplewood red sauce—affectionately known across South Jersey as authentic Italian gravy. Paired with their daily-made pasta, you can immediately taste the decades of kitchen dedication that Jimmy's father, Joe Italiano Jr., instilled in the menu.

Generous Portions and Classic Parmigiana Perfection

When it comes to the main courses, Maplewood is renowned for its generous portions and uncompromising quality. On my latest visit, I ordered the classic Chicken Parmesan, and it was nothing short of outstanding. The cutlet was perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor, topped with a thick layer of melted cheese and that signature red gravy.

While the Chicken Parm is a definite crowd-pleaser, the kitchen also honors a deep-seafood legacy. Whether you are eyeing quintessential spaghetti and crab, looking to try the famous Maplewood white sauce that started a South Jersey craze in the 1950s, or indulging in "Joe's Special" packed with fresh local seafood, every entree is prepared fresh and served with pride.

Professional Hospitality and The Verdict

What impressed me just as much as the food was the seamless execution of the hospitality. Even during peak dining hours when the dining room was bustling, the staff remained friendly, attentive, and professional. The customer service was excellent from start to finish, with our server ensuring our table never felt neglected or rushed. Joe Italiano's Maplewood in Mays Landing delivers a wonderful dining experience anchored by rich family history, incredible scratch-made food, and genuine hospitality. I am already looking forward to going back again soon.
