CAPE MAY - I still remember when Fish House was just a little concession stand on the beach, serving up delicious crab cake sandwiches to sun-soaked tourists. Fast forward to today, and they have absolutely leveled up. Now a stunning coastal-inspired eatery nestled in the picturesque beauty of Cape May, it overlooks the legendary Sunset Beach while staying true to the rich traditions of classic East Coast seafood shacks. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak times, so plan accordingly or consider nearby public lots for easier access.
I recently stopped in with my family and our puppy, and the experience reminded me exactly why we keep coming back year after year.
The Vibe and Service
The scenery and atmosphere alone make every visit special, creating a warm, inviting space where families and dog owners feel truly welcomed. Between the welcoming waterfront views and the breezy coastal charm, it is the perfect spot for great food and good company. A quick heads-up: expect a wait if you go during the peak summer season. Trust me, it's worth it. The service is incredibly attentive, and during our visit, our server, Tory, went above and beyond to make sure our family had a fantastic meal.
Exceptionally Dog and Family-Friendly
If you're traveling with your four-legged best friend, you'll be thrilled to know that Fish House is incredibly dog-friendly. They even offer a "Pup Cup" for just $4! Our puppy was absolutely thrilled, and it's a brilliant touch that highlights just how welcoming they are.
It's equally great for the kids. The children's menu has solid, crowd-pleasing options, and our little ones always devour the fried fish or the classic cheeseburger served with fries.
The Food and Drinks
The food across the board was outstanding, fresh, and incredibly flavorful. Here is a look at what we ordered:
- Goat Cheese Salad with Salmon: One of my personal favorites. The greens are fresh, and the salmon is absolutely divine.
- The Classics: We had a feast featuring their famous crab sandwiches, an avocado chicken sandwich, and a juicy double-patty burger. Every single item was cooked to perfection, making each bite a delightful experience that will leave you eager to return.
- Jumbo Shrimp: Always fresh, delicious, and a must-order for seafood lovers.
To wash it all down, we explored their expertly crafted cocktail menu. The drinks are unique, but the standout was the Shipwreck Margarita—it was dangerously delicious.
A Quick Tip for Future Visitors
One of the best things about Fish House is that their excellent breakfast menu is available well into the afternoon. To enjoy a more relaxed, less crowded experience, plan to visit during off-peak hours. Breakfast is served until 2:30 PM, and the dinner entrée menu doesn't officially begin until 3:00 PM, so timing your visit can help you unwind and savor the moment.
Between the top-tier service from Tory, the family-friendly and dog-friendly touches, the beautiful views, and the perfectly executed food, Fish House remains a Cape May staple. I highly recommend making it a priority on your next trip to the shore!
