Manahawkin, NJ - When you're heading toward Long Beach Island and looking for that perfect, hopping seafood spot, you sometimes stumble on a place that is the best thing that could have happened. Located at 1185 E Bay Ave, Manahawkin, NJ 08050, Mud City Crab House is an absolute must-visit. This locally loved seafood restaurant and on-site fish market is a throwback to simpler times at the Jersey Shore, offering a completely relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Famous Crab Cakes, Garlic Clams, and Cioppino
The food here is simply beyond good. The kitchen focuses on incredibly fresh, high-quality seafood and executes classic coastal dishes flawlessly. During our visit, we ordered a spread that showcased the restaurant's impressive variety:
- The Famous Crab Cakes: Consistently praised and voted "Best in NJ," these jumbo lump crab cakes are perfectly baked with just enough seasoning to hold them together. They are an absolute standout.
- Seafood Bisque & Cioppino: The rich seafood bisque is phenomenal, and diners consistently rave about their hearty cioppino.
- Garlic Butter Clams & Calamari: We also ordered the baked garlic butter clams and crispy calamari, both of which were perfectly prepared and incredibly flavorful.
Everything on the menu highlights their dedication to sourcing the freshest local catches.
"The Barstream" and Helpful Service
A great coastal dining experience requires both a fun atmosphere and excellent hospitality, and Mud City excels at both. We loved sitting out on the cozy outdoor patio, which features a revamped vintage trailer acting as "The Barstream" serving up their full cocktail, wine, and beer list. Complete with fire pits, the patio is the perfect spot to unwind while you wait for a table.
Matching the vibrant atmosphere is the genuinely attentive staff. Our server was incredibly helpful in selecting items that highlighted the best of the menu, providing excellent service throughout the meal.
The Verdict
Mud City Crab House provided one of my favorite dining experiences on the Jersey Shore. Between the phenomenal jumbo lump crab cakes, the fresh garlic butter clams, and the perfectly cozy outdoor patio, it is an exceptional seafood destination. Whether you are grabbing fresh catches from their fish market to take back to the rental or settling in for dinner by the fire pits, go here every chance you get!
