Philadelphia, PA - Cape May Counties, Wildwood Crest’s Board of Commissioners, has banned smoking on its beaches along with recreational marijuana use. The Borough passed the ordinance banning all beachgoers from smoking on the beach Wednesday night.
Wildwood Crest Bans Smoking on Beaches
A statewide beach smoking ban was passed back in 2018 at allowed local governments to designating areas totaling no more than 15% of their total beach acreage for smoking. Wildwood Crest’s neighbors, Wildwood and North Wildwood did not pass ordinances to ban to state’s ban.
But, according to the Borough, smoking areas allowed in designated locations back in 2019 were eliminated, with the passage of the new ordinance and all the Borough’s beaches will now be defined as smoke-free.
Borough commissioners also made changes to limit marijuana and cannabis use at borough parks and recreational areas. Allowing medical marijuana in designated areas and banning it at school properties, beaches, and public parks.
