A Weekend Beach Getaway In New Jersey

Some of our favorite excursions include Cape May, Atlantic City, and Ocean City, New Jersey. Each of these family beach towns offers many different activities, as well as very different atmospheres.

Cape May, New Jersey

Located at the southern tip of New Jersey sits the historic town of Cape May. This is one of the shores most relaxing towns with an old-timey atmosphere. In the 1800s, Cape May, New Jersey, was a trendy seaside resort, and it was during this period, many unique and artistic cottages were built along the shoreline.

Throughout the years, residents have taken the time to maintain and restore many of these old cottages. As a result, the Victorian period has become the theme of this cute shore town. Today this Victorian architecture is still a large part of many of the establishments and homes on the cape.

And, to this day, Cape May has retained a small-town feel, making it very different from the other beach towns, with plenty to do for the entire family.

All this makes Cape May, New Jersey, an excellent east coast getaway! With dozens of lovely shops and restaurants that still line the town's main street. Plus there is the beach and plenty of off-island things to do.

Atlantic City, New Jersey

Atlantic City is a gambling town, with amazingly huge hotels, and of course, that infamous boardwalk. But recently, it has experienced somewhat of a renaissance and has become an excellent getaway for the entire family to enjoy.

Atlantic City is a combination of beaches, shopping, restaurants and is one of the only areas on the east coast where gambling is on a scale comparable to that of Las Vegas.

Plus, Atlantic City offers guests endless nightlife with something new and exciting to experience every day of the year.

Ocean City, New Jersey

While Atlantic City offers an exciting, high-energy vacation and Cape May can be a very peaceful, relaxing getaway, visiting Ocean City is that shore town somewhere in the middle.

With family-friendly nightlife and something going on at all hours, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy. But, Ocean City, NJ, can also be a quiet, off-the-beaten-trail kind of town.

The main feature being Ocean City's boardwalk, complete with amusement rides, water parks, arcades, mini-golf, and all the other attractions one would expect. And, don't forget the food that is a must-have when walking along the boardwalk; cotton candy, saltwater taffy, caramel corn, and of course, The Boardwalk Fries!

These three shore towns all offer access to the Atlantic Ocean and the miles of sandy beaches that the area is known for.

Choosing between them is easy because each offers a unique style of getaway for visitors. Whether looking for the quiet, historical charm of Cape May, New Jersey, the wild nightlife of Atlantic City, or the fun of the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ, these towns can help create the perfect east coast getaway.
