PHILADELPHIA, PA – For the third consecutive year, Philadelphia has been crowned the Most Walkable City to Visit in the U.S. in the prestigious USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The announcement, made today, solidifies the city's reputation as an exceptionally accessible and easy-to-navigate destination for travelers and event attendees.
The selection process involved a panel of travel experts nominating 20 U.S. cities based on criteria such as pedestrian accessibility and the proximity of hotels to key attractions. Philadelphia ultimately secured the number one ranking through a public voting process, surpassing other major metropolitan areas like New York City, Boston, and Chicago.
City tourism leaders celebrated the "three-peat" as a testament to Philadelphia's unique urban design. “Earning this title for the third consecutive year affirms what we’ve always known: Philadelphia is a city best experienced on foot,” said Angela Val, president & CEO of Visit Philadelphia. “It’s a reflection of how seamlessly our neighborhoods, culture and sense of community connect across the city. That ease of exploration helps visitors feel a deeper connection, and inspires them to return again and again.”
The award is a significant win for Philadelphia's tourism and convention industries. Walkability is a key decision-making factor for meeting planners and international travelers who want to maximize their time.
“We’re thrilled that Philadelphia has been named the most walkable city in the U.S. for the third year in a row,” said Gregg Caren, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. “With world-class hotels, historic sites, diverse dining, and the Pennsylvania Convention Center all within a compact, accessible footprint, Philadelphia delivers an experience that’s easy to navigate and hard to forget.”
The city's Center City core spans only 2.4 miles from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill River, a fact supported by The Wall Street Journal, which previously named the Pennsylvania Convention Center #1 for walkability among 30 of the nation's largest convention centers. This continued recognition reinforces Philadelphia's status as a premier, pedestrian-friendly destination.
