Opened yesterday, June 11, LUMINISCENCE has taken over the iconic Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, transforming the historic space into a 360-degree living canvas of light, music, and storytelling.
After captivating over a million guests across eight countries—including France, Spain, the UK, and Brazil—this globally acclaimed production from LOTCHI and Banijay Live has landed in Philly. Promising a side of the city many have never known, LUMINISCENCE is a must-see highlight of this summer’s America 250 celebrations.
A Masterpiece of Light and Architecture
Located at Logan Square, the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul is the largest Catholic church in Pennsylvania and a masterpiece of Roman-Corinthian architecture. Constructed between 1846 and 1864, its massive brownstone facade and towering copper dome have been a fixture of the city's skyline for over 150 years.
Now, cutting-edge 360-degree video mapping technology is awakening the building's sleeping soul. During the roughly 60-minute show, breathtaking light projections sculpt the cathedral's ornate vaulting, marble columns, and stunning frescoes, taking visitors on a journey through time. The visual spectacle tells the rich history of the Cathedral and the founding of Philadelphia, culminating in custom-designed imagery that celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States.
