PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Zoo is teaming up with Odunde365 to bring a celebration of West African culture, dance, music, and crafts to Impala Plaza this summer.
The upcoming African Culture Fest will take place on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event extends the annual spirit of South Philadelphia's Odunde Festival, which holds the distinction of being the largest African American street festival in the United States.
What to Expect at the Festival
Visitors of all ages will have the chance to engage in hands-on art activations, dance performances, and traditional music classes throughout the afternoon. The West Philly Reading Captains will also be on-site, distributing themed books to young readers.
Impala Plaza Event Schedule (Saturday, August 8):
- 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Live DJ & West Philly Reading Captains Book Giveaways
- 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: African Bracelet and Mask Making
- 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM: Painting Class
- 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: African Henna
- 12:45 PM – 1:30 PM: Children's African Dance Performance
- 1:30 PM – 2:15 PM: African Drum Class (Learn to play traditional rhythms)
- 2:15 PM – 3:00 PM: Odunde365 Finale on Impala Plaza
