Philadelphia, PA - Theatre Philadelphia, a local theatre marketing and leadership organization created the "Theatre Philadelphia Emergency Relief" fund to assist local theatre workers impacted as a result of COVID-19.
Theatre Philadelphia Launches $200,000 in Emergency Relief for Theatre Workers
Theatre Philadelphia is going to award $200,000 in micro-grants amounting to $300 per worker based on a first-come-first-serve determination to theatre workers affected by closures and cancellations. Qualified applicants must live within a 35-mile radius of Philadelphia’s City Hall as well as work in any creative, technical, service, or administrative capacity in theatre.
Theatre Philadelphia is planning to continue its annual tradition of celebrating the region’s theatre this fall. However, Theatre Philadelphia Emergency Relief efforts will help to serve the community’s immediate needs, during a time when so many face challenges.
Based on the latest study conducted by Theatre Philadelphia, 97% of freelance and contract workers in theatre have been affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And, 70% of professional actors have lost or will likely lose 50% of their earnings due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Theatre Philadelphia is also accepting public donations to boost the total effort. All contributions will go exclusively to theatre workers experiencing financial burdens, and a gift of $300 will provide a grant for one individual.
