Philadelphia, PA - When it comes to cheesesteaks, there are your everyday sandwiches, and then there's Tenderbones Rib Shack. In my personal cheesesteak calendar, Tenderbones is August—a special event, a vacation from the regular-sized world. This is, without a doubt, my favorite Delaware cheesesteak place and a serious contender for the biggest cheesesteak in the entire Tri-State Area.
Just How Big is the Tenderbones Cheesesteak?
Let's get right to it: this cheesesteak is extra-large. Even with recent inflation in meat prices, the size is staggering.
I recently ordered two cheesesteaks from Tenderbones and brought them to a local brewery to meet up with some friends. The four of us split the two cheesesteaks, and we still had enough leftovers for a fifth person. They are massive.
The legendary "Chef Bones" is still on the grill, and you can even find YouTube videos of him in action. He makes them the classic way, loaded with fried onions, peppers, and mushrooms. The flavor is fantastic, and the value is undeniable.
The Perfect Pairing: Wilmington Brew Works
Since Tenderbones is a shack, you need a place to eat this masterpiece. Here’s the pro tip: take it right down the street to Wilmington Brew Works (WBW), one of my favorite watering holes in Delaware.
WBW is outside-food friendly, making it the perfect partner for a Tenderbones run. I joined my friend, cheesesteak fan Joe Del Tufo, and several of the WBW owners for the feast.
You'll always find an amazing beer at WBW. My friend Joe correctly calls Craig, the brewmaster, a "Hops Maestro." With 16 taps, Craig does a fantastic job of keeping a diverse and rotating selection available. No matter your taste, you'll find a beer you love to pair with your steak.
The Verdict: A Winner-Winner Cheesesteak Dinner
We had a perfect winner-winner cheesesteak dinner at Wilmington Brew Works. If you are a true cheesesteak fan and haven't made the trip to Tenderbones Rib Shack, you are missing out on what could be the Tri-State Area's biggest and best cheesesteak.
