NEW FlagTRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has ordered the flag of the United States and the flag of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff across the state in honor of His Holiness Pope Francis. The directive, issued via Executive Order No. 386 on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, calls for the flags to be lowered immediately.


New Jersey Honors Pope Francis: Flags Lowered Statewide Until Interment


This statewide gesture of mourning and respect follows the passing of Pope Francis. The flags will remain at half-staff at all State departments, offices, agencies, and instrumentalities until sunset on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the day of the Pope's interment.

Executive Order 386 signifies New Jersey's participation in honoring Pope Francis's life, service, and global spiritual leadership.
