PhillyBite10DELAWARE - Middletown's dining scene is preparing for a major new addition. The Brass Tap, an award-winning upscale American tavern franchise, is officially expanding into Delaware. The brand recently signed a franchise agreement to open its first location in the state, bringing its signature mix of craft beer, specialty cocktails, and chef-inspired dining to the rapidly growing northern Delaware community.

The Brass Tap Targets Middletown for First Delaware Location

Led by new franchisee Ashil Patel, the restaurant is set to open at Bayberry Town Center (235 Town Center Drive) pending the conclusion of lease negotiations.

From Pharma to Franchising

For Patel, opening The Brass Tap is a massive career change. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy at Thomas Jefferson University and spent just over three years in the corporate pharma world before moving into his own business.

'I'm from a family of hard-working people, pharmacists and business owners, and have always been inspired by my dad. He took a risk, left his job in the corporate world and moved to Delaware to go and start his own business,' Patel said. 'The Brass Tap is an opportunity for me to create a family-owned place for the Middletown community to come together with good food, good drinks, and good vibes.'

Patel (who is currently in Pennsylvania and plans to move to Middletown) chose The Brass Tap after a family friend who runs a location in Georgia recommended it. He chose that brand because of its corporate support and proven operating model.

A New Gathering Place at Bayberry Town Center

While an official opening timeline has not yet been announced as lease negotiations advance, the vision for the Middletown location is clear. The Brass Tap operates over 50 locations in 16 states, and this new outpost will feature the brand's extensive selection of local and regional craft beers and premium wines.

Beyond the menu, Patel is hyper-focused on the hospitality aspect of the business. He aims to host everything from family nights and weekend football watch parties to local car-scene events, creating a welcoming environment for both guests and his future staff.

"You have to treat your bartenders, servers and kitchen crew like family and equals, because without them working alongside you, the doors simply don't open," Patel noted regarding his management approach.

Chris Elliott, CEO of FSC Franchise Co. (the parent company of The Brass Tap, Beef'  O' Brady's, and Newk's Eatery), expressed strong support for the expansion. "Ashil's vision for Middletown aligns perfectly with that mission... His passion for hospitality, commitment to the local community, and entrepreneurial drive make him a strong partner as we introduce The Brass Tap to Delaware."
