PhillyBite10NEW JERSEY - The Bergen County dining scene is expanding with a highly anticipated new fusion concept. Nikki Nikkei, a new restaurant specializing in the vibrant intersection of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, has officially opened its doors in Closter, New Jersey. Taking over the prominent space formerly occupied by The Hill at 252 Schraalenburgh Road, this fresh culinary destination is already drawing attention for its unique menu and stylish atmosphere.

A New Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei Concept Just Opened in Closter

The concept is the latest venture from the experienced local hospitality family behind two other wildly popular Bergen County dining staples: the modern Italian restaurant Verana in Norwood (opened in 2022) and the Greek eatery Mykos in Northvale (opened in 2025).

The Art of Nikkei Cuisine

As the name suggests, the restaurant is entirely focused on Nikkei cuisine, a celebrated culinary tradition that brilliantly combines the meticulous techniques of Japanese cooking with the bright, fiery ingredients and bold flavors native to Peru. According to the restaurant's website, the menu draws heavily on the historic Japanese influence on Peruvian food culture.

Diners can expect a seafood-forward menu that beautifully showcases this unique cultural blend. The kitchen serves an array of fresh ceviches, delicate tiraditos, and premium crudos. For those looking for heartier, fire-cooked options, the menu also features a variety of specialty Nikkei grill dishes. To complement the bold flavors coming out of the kitchen, the restaurant boasts a robust, cocktail-driven bar program designed to pair perfectly with the bright citrus and savory umami notes of the food.

A Contemporary Dining Experience

Beyond the menu, the ownership team has completely transformed the Schraalenburgh Road property to match their culinary vision. The Nikki Nikkei space features an intimate 62-seat dining room, outfitted in a contemporary design that balances elegance with a welcoming neighborhood feel. The atmosphere is carefully curated to be a versatile destination, perfectly suited for both relaxed socializing and focused, upscale dining.

With this third restaurant now operational, the family behind Verana and Mykos continues to cement their footprint in the region, bringing yet another highly distinct and elevated dining experience to Northern New Jersey.
