Stoneleigh Natural Garden's
For almost 80 years, Stoneleigh had been the residence of the Haas family, who bestowed the property to Natural Lands in 2016 to ensure that it would remain protected for a long time. Following much groundwork, preparation, and planting, Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden opened to the general public in May of 2018.
Stoneleigh’s historical past dates back to the 1870s when Edmund Smith in 1877, an up and coming executive with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, bought 65 acres of property in Villanova and built his families residence. To shape the grounds, Smith retained landscape gardener Charles H. Miller, who actually trained at Kew Gardens in England and eventually served as chief gardener for Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
Nowadays, Stoneleigh can be described as a breathtaking expression of more than a century of passionate care and attention by three completely different families. Extraordinary trees, sweeping vistas, and romantic garden spaces provide a wide variety of possibilities to enjoy, discover, relax, and be inspired.
