City Hall Holiday Tree LightingPhiladelphia, PA - At one time, it was an imposing shining star of the City presented by Bank of America at City Hall Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. But, now, the 50-year-old white fir was taken away and recycled this past January 7 by the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department on North Broad Street.

A portion of the 52-foot tall tree’s trunk area is going to find new purpose as furniture which is slated to be generously donated. The Christmas tree was removed from the custom-steel 7-foot pedestal-base which weighs in at 40,000 pounds. The base displayed 30 of Philadelphia’s communities - from Chinatown to Fishtown.

The Christmas tree lighting had been the signature event at the Philly Holiday Festival brought to you by Independence Blue Cross and the Office of the City Representative in collaboration with Welcome America. For more than 25 years, the City of Philadelphia has arranged the holiday Christmas tree lighting celebration in Center City at City Hall or LOVE Park.
