Philadelphia, PA15th Annual Kensington Derby and Arts Festival - The Fishtown District announces the return of the 15th Annual Kensington Derby and Arts Festival on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, on Trenton Avenue between Norris Street and Frankford Avenue. It will take place from 12 noon to 6pm. Philadelphia's unique spring festival, and Best of Philly winner for 2023, is back! Let the mud fly at this year's event.

The Festival gathers locals and tourists in Philadelphia, bringing together 200+ musicians, artists, performers, food, drink, and a homemade vehicle parade. The three-mile route takes the homemade vehicles through Fishtown, American St., and back to the festival grounds. Along the way, they will encounter obstacles, including mud pits. The winners will be announced in categories such as Best Art, best costume, best engineering, best breakdown, media choice, and the Judge's Choice Award.

NextFab will partner with the Festival to provide monthly demos, consultations, and support for anyone preparing for this grand event. The Derby Parade is free to enter, thanks to the generous support of Penn Treaty Special Services District.

NEWS: The Festival is expanding and adding a larger footprint, with dozens more vendors. More local artists, makers, and businesses have been announced below. Cloud Cups, a Black-owned gelato business in Philadelphia, will preview its new Fishtown location with a Pop-up at Pizza Brain, 2313 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA. 19125.

Kae Anderson, Fishtown District Director for Operations, said: "The mud will fly on Trenton Avenue once again! NextFab is excited to partner this year with the Kensington Derby as the official Kensington Derby Headquarters! Our technical experts will guide teams in creating beautiful and functional sculptures by opening our maker space during a 3-month workshop series. In addition, our partner Rabbit Recycling will also host a pop-up where teams can access free sustainable building material."

She said, "Art and Engineering have always been at the forefront of this event, and thanks to our partnership, this year's Derby will be more accessible and inclusive than ever." "We look forward to seeing what crazy creations the derby teams will develop for our 15th Anniversary."

This event is known to be one of the biggest spring festivals in the tri-state area. It has been hailed as one of the city's most unique and memorable events, going beyond food, drinks, and vendors. This event is unique in bringing together local businesses, vendors, performers and musicians, food trucks, and local businesses. To add to the excitement and grandeur of the event, it was held in the pouring rain last year. The mud flew more than ever. This long-running event has been so popular that thousands of people came to watch and participate, but also thousands who stayed the entire day as umbrellas darted around the racecourse. The event will be held rain or shine this year - but shine is preferred!
