- This is not your father's cheesesteak calendar. If this were my father's cheesesteak calendar, it would have the same place every month. And that is why we have an emotional attachment to cheesesteaks. When someone says 'Cheesesteak,' I think about my father's favorite place and going there; when my sisters and I behaved when I cut school with my cousin John and after we moved my sister into her 1st apartment.

January - Esterly's Sandwich Shop, Mertztown, PA. The start of a new year! Resolve to be a Cheesesteak Adventurer! Rodney invented the no-grease Cheesesteak. Now his cheesesteaks travel more than most of us. Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt. Everest, Tahiti, Korea.
February - Tony Joe's House of Great Eats, Pottstown, PA. Valentine's Day. Grab that special someone and have a romantic cheesesteak dinner by the fireplace in Tony Joe's magnificently renovated and funky-deliciously decorated house from the early 1800s.
March - McGillin's Olde Ale House, Philadelphia, PA. Celebrate St Patrick's Day at McGillin's Olde Ale House. Go to the celebration. Stay and go back for the Cheesesteak. Opened in 1860, McGillin's is Philadelphia's oldest continuous use Ale House.
April - Peter & Sons Sandwiches, Glassboro, NJ. National Soft Pretzel Month. Who puts their Cheesesteak on my soft pretzel? At Peter and Sons Sandwiches, a soft pretzel is your Cheesesteak's roll. Common sense, genius, or culinary terrorist? All I know is that it tastes darn good!
May - Wilson Secret Sauce BBQ, Upper Darby, PA. Is May the unofficial start to Bar-B-Que season? It doesn't matter; once you have Wilson's Secret Sauce Bar-B-Que, you will be eating Bar-B-Que all year long. The only thing better than Steve's grilling/cooking/smoking and
roasting is his and his wife Kelly's work in the community.
June - Meatheadz Cheesesteaks, Lawrence Twp, NJ. Heading down the Shore? Stop on your way and get The Dripping Steak. It changed my life. Two brothers tried different careers before realizing their dad was right, and they are just a couple of meatheadz.
July - Oh Brother, Philadelphia, PA. Happy 4th of July. Our Founding Fathers began their Pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Happiness in Old City. You can begin and end your pursuit of a great cheesesteak in Old City at Oh Brother.
August - Tenderbones Rib Shack, Bear, DE. Take a vacation from small cheesesteaks. Bring extra rolls or friends because Chef Bones' cheesesteaks are overflowing with meat. I take Tupperware for the overflowing meat. It reheats well, and I don't have to share.
September - Leo's Steak Shop, Folcroft, PA. Back to great traditional cheesesteaks at Leo's. Leo's, winner of my 1st annual March Cheesesteak Madness, has been serving award-winning cheesesteaks to their loyal customers since 1974.
October - Hog Island Steaks, Phoenixville, PA. Happy Halloween!! Two great area attractions. Pennhurst Haunted Asylum is always a top-rated Halloween attraction. Hog Island Steaks, one of Philadelphia Magazines' Oct 2018, 30 Cheesesteaks to eat before you die.
November - Donkey's Place, Camden, NJ. Anthony Bourdain and the kid from The Goldbergs ABC sitcom describe Donkey's awesomeness much more eloquently than I can. Donkeys and elections; I declare November a cheesesteak month!
December - Charlie's Roast Pork, Philadelphia, PA. The gift that everyone can love, a cheesesteak from Charlie's Roast Pork. Charlie's was my top pick for traditional Cheesesteak in my 20 Cheesesteaks for 2020.
