Co-Hops is laying the foundation for the craft brewing future in Pennsylvania as it continues to grow. The business model is intended to help small and new breweries start up and become a sustainable part of the local economy. Although homebrewers can use their brewing systems to start their commercial operations, their brew system does not allow for the scale needed to make it a commercial-grade brewing facility.
That's where Co-Hops steps in, they not only brew your beer, they also package the final product, which is why it is a contract-only brewing facility.
As Pennsylvania's first contract-only brewery, Co-Hops has grown from a small, 5,000-square-foot space to a larger, 10,000-square-foot facility. Its first facility is now a thriving commercial brewing operation. It has a taproom that is open to the public and serves up a wide variety of craft beer from its current clients.
Co-Hops aims to take over the entire building and install a thirty-barrel brewhouse. This will allow them to serve as many as 35 different breweries at a time. In addition to selling the beer produced by these contract breweries, Co-Hops will also establish a wholesale division. The company will distribute and deliver beer from several local brewing companies. The breweries that work with Co-Hops provided their recipe and ingredients and the co-op does the rest.
Unlike many other brewing companies, Co-Hops is not just a brewing and packaging facility. It also offers a brewpub experience. Co-Hops is the first Contract only brewing facility to be open to the public; visitors can experience the Co-Hops tasting from Thurs-Sunday.
