Following two difficult years for the restaurant industry, things are already looking up for Philadelphia in 2022, as Amina Restaurant & Lounge is located at 104 Chestnut Street in the city’s Old City neighborhood during the first quarter of the year.

The 70-seat establishment is owned by Felicia Wilson and will be headed up by Chef/Partner Darryl Harmon in the kitchen. The restaurant is named after Wilson’s daughter, Amina, and is inspired by an ancient warrior goddess of Nigeria.

The menu will focus on Southern cuisine, utilizing African ingredients. The interior will feature intimate, gold designs representing an African female warrior, with African décor and themes throughout the space.

Wilson, who lives in Cheltenham with her husband Shawn Bell and their four children, opened three childcare center’s in our region, including two in Philadelphia and one in Willow Grove.

Harmon, who hails from Gouldtown, NJ, in Cumberland County, is an award-winning chef in New York City. He previously served as an Executive Chef at the Water Works Restaurant in Philadelphia between 2007 and 2012.

Amina will initially open offering only dinner service, with weekend brunch and lunch beginning shortly after launch. The establishment has a liquor license and a full bar, specializing in craft beers and cocktails made with locally distilled spirits and wines worldwide.
