Philadelphia, PA - The Queen of Barbacoa, Cristina Martinez and her husband Ben Miller have recently closed up El Compadre, their son’s Italian Market torta restaurant. The couple had taken over the restaurant shortly after Isaías Berriozabal-Martinez, Cristina's son, passed away suddenly, in 2017.

The couple is going to focus on their own very popular South Philly Barbacoa, which not too long ago moved to a larger venue down the street, at the corner location on 1140 S. 9th Street, shortly after Martinez and Miller ended up showcased on Netflix’s Ugly Delicious and Chef’s Table.

The rumors are that El Compadre is going to become 1149, a new dining establishment which is going to also contain a catering company Food Everyone Deserves as well as Fikira Bakery.
