Philadelphia, PA - Anyone who claims that Philadelphia is a town lacking any good tacos hasn’t honestly had tacos in Philly, at least not recently. Philadelphia offers a wide variety of taquerias — and several dining establishments — offering up fantastic tacos, and you ought to try them all.
Where to Eat Tacos in Philadelphia
Once missing from the local Philadelphia foodie scene, the traditional taco nowadays challenges the cheesesteak as Philly's fast-food favorite, thanks a bunch to several new Mexican and Latino restaurants opening in and around the Philadelphia region.
From South Philly, North Philly and beyond, traditional mom and pop shops such as El Jarocho, Taco Riendo, Taqueria Los Taquitos de Puebla, and Taqueria La Mexicanita offer up reasonably priced tacos along with traditional fillings such as carnitas, lengua, and Pescado Asado.
High-end chefs are also offering customers their own take on the classic taco. Such as Tim Spinner's Taqueria Feliz, Stephen Starr's El Vez and El Rey, and Jose Garces' Distrito, who also runs a truck.
Yet, a few upstart restaurateurs have taken a different approach, redefining the popular street food along with some wacky results: Such as Shifty's Taco, Union Taco, and Loco Pez.
