Waller's Deli Philadelphia, PA - Holy mackerel!! Waller's Deli has renewed my faith in the adventure and people!! It was Saturday morning, and I ended up in Lakewood, NJ. Usually, I would have gotten right back on the highway and headed for home.

The Cheesesteak Adventure at Waller's Deli, Tabernacle, NJ.

But I took a secret oath in my basement to eat every cheesesteak, so I took the back roads home. There were a couple of places on my go-to list, but Waller stood out because it had a Google maps rating of 4.8 on 223 reviews, which was very impressive.

Waller's Deli has the end unit in a very unassuming strip mall in the middle of the Pine Barrens. Yes, the Pine Barrens was the Jersey Devil lives.

The first thing I noticed walking into Waller's was the community board. For being in the pine barrens, a lot is going on in that town, at least on the community board.

The next thing I noticed is they were swamped. Surprising since they are in the middle of the pine barrens.

The last thing I noticed was they stock their shelves with many locally made items, i.e., Jersey Boys Jerky, Nancy's fudge cups, and a no-name but locally made candy. I was very close to buying a no-name licorice shoe strings, but I had just started a diet.

When I was at the counter, a man in the back yelled to the girls at the counter, 'let me know when Steve comes in to pick up his order because if it is the Steve, I think it is. I am buying his breakfast this morning.'

I thought that was very Pine Barren'ish. I saw on the menu a breakfast cheesesteak burrito. I asked the young woman at the counter if the breakfast cheesesteak burrito was an accurate portrayal of Waller's Deli? She chuckled and said, 'yes.' I got the breakfast cheesesteak burrito.

Spoiler alert; it was terrific. The tater tots were inside the burrito. Steak meat, cheese, scrambled eggs, and tater tots wrapped inside a nice soft tortilla wrapper—a little Slice of Heaven in the Pine Barrens.

My one teeny-weeny wish is for the eggs and meat to be mixed together with a little more. How did I forget the gift basket raffles to raise money for 2 different local charities!!
